Description

BioLL is a biological insecticide based on the entomopathogenic fungus Lecanicillium lecanii and is used for the control of soft bodied insects in a variety of crops.

BioLL is a wettable powder (WP) formulation containing living spores of L. licanii at a concentration of 1 x 1010 Colony forming Units (CFU’s) per gram in an inert carrier.

Target Pests

Aphids, whiteflies, thrips, leafminers, mealybugs, scale insects and other soft bodied insects.

Mode of action

Upon germination of the spores of L. lecanii, the germ tubes penetrate the cuticle of the insect by enzymatic and mechanical actions eventually infecting the insect. The fungi multiply in the insect body, releasing toxins that destroy the insect’s internal organs leading to the death of the insect and causing the “white halo disease”. The fungi emerge from the insect’s body, sporulates and starts the infective cycle over again upon contact with other host insects.

Application

  • Apply BioLL as applied as a foliar spray. Mix the required amount of BioLL with water using 2L for every 250g product, stir well to form a uniform suspension. Add the suspension to the required volume of water in the spray tank and mix well. After mixing with water the product should be sprayed as soon as possible, DO NOT store overnight. Apply using high volume spray equipment and maintain a minimum relative humidity of at least 65% for the first 12 hours for germination to occur. Avoid spraying at time of day when UV light concentration is at its highest (11am-4pm) and the relative humidity is low.
  • BioLL is compatible with most biopesticides and insecticides however, some chemicals may have a detrimental effect on BioLL as it is a living organism, avoid chemical fungicides for at least 24-48 hours before and after the application BioLL. Consult with a BioBee technical adviser for more information.

Rate and frequency of application

  • It is recommended to apply BioLL at a rate of 250g per hectare with a water volume of 1 500-2 000 L depending on the crop canopy, ensure the spores are evenly distributed on the leaf surface.
  • Frequency of application varies with pest pressure and their susceptible life stages, generally it is recommended to spray every 5-7 days with 2-4 repeat applications.
  • The highest infection levels are achieved at temperature of between 20-28°C.

Storage

  • Bio LL is packed in 250g containers and can be stored in the original unopened container for up to six months from the date of manufacture under temperature of 6- 12°C. Do not freeze and do not allow the product to undergo thermal shock.

All products are tested to meet specification requirements before leaving the factory.
BioBee is not responsible for the outcome of implementation in the field, as it has no control over the method of application, local conditions, treatment/storage of product not according to instructions, etc.
